There are many similarities between the layout and toolbars of all Miscrosoft products, and powerpoint is no exception.  You will recognise these toolbars from Word, Excel and Publisher.

Other toolbars have more in common with Publisher only.  Take a look at this one.  Though Publisher places these tools in different locations, they are otherwise identical.

Finally, PowerPoint includes some unique tools, which are seen here.  Hold your mouse pointer over each of the tool buttons in Powerpoint and guage from the popup help what each of them does.  More on this later.
