Adipic Acid

Monomer for the condensation polymers nylon and polyester

Adipic acid is one of the difunctional monomers used to make the synthetic polymer nylon 6,6. Nylon 6,6 and nylon 6 are considered to be high-end commodity polymers. That is, they're more expensive than simple polyolefins but they have much better properties like higher melting points and better resistance to thermal and oxidative degradation.
