Environmental/Exposure Testing of Polymeric Coatings
Homework Opportunity #1b

Before actual testing, have students research typical situations in which the pH and/or salinity of solutions would affect coating performance. Have students find objects (buildings, statues, memorials) on and off campus that are showing signs of exposure. Then, have students formulate possible causes of the damage.

Follow up: Compile a list of objects to be used after testing is completed for students to apply their knowledge of the performance of the coatings studied to determine which coating would be the most and/or least useful for each application.
