Few people like to take quizzes, but if you are one of those that do, knock yourself out! If not, give these a go anyway. We've tried to make them a little different from traditional quizzes so that they are a little more fun. One hint: after you get the right answer, click on the wrong ones for their responses. Some contain useful information or adivice.
Remember that these are mostly for your own use, so you can print them as a record of your achievement or email them to yourself, but if you simply close a quiz or test, there will be no record of your results (we are not "Big Brother" keeping an eye on everything you do).
First, why not get a feel for how we ask questions, and just what you really are supposed to remember from when you were "just a sprout in the alfalfa field of life" (school, remember?).
The following deal with the "Background Concepts" of Module One, you need to know this stuff, but it doesn't fit into the real "meat" of what polymer science is about: these are the appetizers for the main courses.
Intro Quiz 1: historical development of polymer stucture-property concepts
Intro Quiz 2: dates of key polymer developments
Intro Quiz 3: naming of polymers- what works, what doesn't
Quizzes below deal with latter sections of "Module One" material- this IS the meat (or at least the appetizer) of what makes polymers unique, why they behave differently than small molecules, and how they fit into the "grand scheme of things" in the form of multi-level organization of matter ("Whoa, stop right there!" you might say; don't- this is fun!).
Basics Quiz 1: what are the unique polymer characteristics & concepts?
Basics Quiz 2: "intermediate" basics, if there is such a thing
Basics Quiz 3: "advanced" basics, topics that extend their unique properties.
Basics Quiz 4: "macroscopic" properties, what they are.
Basics Quiz 5: "macroscopic" properties, how to measure them.
Quizzes below deal with the fun and educational (stop me if I'm wrong- not!) activities that we have for you. See if you understand what you did and saw, and how it relates to "doing science."
Quiz 1 on Candles- what do you see before you light it?
Quiz 2 on Candles- what do you see while it's burning?
Quiz 3 on Candles- what did you understand about what you saw?
Quiz on Science- what is it and why do I care?
Quiz on Technology- what is it and how do I do it?
