How this Works

Your "Ookey Oozey" is not a Newtonian fluid. It is classified as a non-Newtonian fluid. It does not behave like an ideal liquid. The "Ookey Oozey" is made up of millions of tiny solid particles of cornstarch suspended in water. It's a special type of liquid suspension known as colloid. Ketchup is a non-Newtonian fluid. It doesn't behave just like your "Ookey Oozey", but it sure doesn't behave like water! Quicksand is another non-Newtonian fluid. Next time you find yourself in quicksand, very, very slowly try moving or swimming toward shore. The slower you move, the less quicksand (or cornstarch) will resist your movement.
