A TEM picture of a latex IPN comprised of PVC and poly(butadiene-co- acrylonitrile). This particular latex has a core-shell morphology. The circular regions are the latex particles and the dark edges of the circles are poly(butadiene-co-acrylonitrile) stained with osmium tetraoxide. Therefore the "core" of the latex is PVC and the "shell" is the copolymer. (taken from Sionakidis,J.; Sperling, L.; and Thomas, D. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 24, 1179 (1979)).
