Nylon 6,10 Demonstration:

1. Obtain Mystery Nylon Factory kit from Flinn Scientific.
2. Put on goggles.
3. Place 5 mL of the sebacoyl chloride solution in a beaker (100-150 mL).
4. Carefully (try not to mix the two layers) add 5 mL of the hexanediamine solution to the beaker, pouring on an angle down the side of the beaker. (Note that the organic layer is on the bottom.)
5. Unbend a paper clip and hook some of the polymer that is forming at the interface of the solutions and loop it onto a glass stirring rod. Wind the polymer on the stirring rod.
6. Wash the polymer with water before handling.
7. Discard remaining solutions in appropriate organic waste containers. Do not discard down the drain.
