Aramid monomer, isophthaloyl chloride
Highly reactive (and expensive) monomer used to make Nomex and other high performance polymers.
Aramids are extremely strong and tough materials (as fibers) used to make
car tires, high performance composites and most important, body armor to stop bullets.
This diacid chloride reacts with m-phenylenediamine to give Nomex used in fire fighter suits.
